Bodypulse Dance Spectacular
Congratulations to all those amazing dances from Room 5 who put such an incredible amount of effort into the performance at Amberley. You make all of us at Ashley School so proud. I have had comments from so many parents and principals about how you were the stars of the show. Huge thanks to all the mums who helped that afternoon and during our own production. It goes to show what can be
achieved. This was a fantastically successful dance unit and I want to especially thank Vickie Bond for all her work on the choreography and the opportunity to perform at your annual dance event.
Cheers Mr L

ANZAC Day Assembly
Ashley School has a great tradition of remembering ANZAC day. We cross the road every year to place flowers on the cenotaph and listen to the old post being played. Grace's great, great uncle was in the first world war and he got injured twice in France. He had to come back to England and he died later in New Zealand 12 years after. From Grace.

What are tidy numbers?
1+9=10
2+8=10
3+7=10
4+6=10
5+5=10
To work out 7+5 try 7+3=100
then add 2 more
To work out 12-8 try 12-2=10
then take 6 more off the 10 i.e 10-6=4
This way we can stop counting on or backwards on our fingers.
Harder problems can be done this way also eg 23-7. Take 3 off the 23 then you have come down to a tidy number of 20.
You now need only take 4 more off. 10+6+4 =20
Let's try 14+8. We know that 6+4=10,
so 14+6=20 then add 2 more to get 22
LOOK for tidy numbers.

Waikuku Beach
On Tuesday of last week the junior school went to Waikuku Beach to learn about safety in the water and sunsmart. It was a great day in the surf. There were powerful waves and we had lots of fun.
Welcome to Room 5 for 2012
Welcome back to a new school year. We have a wonderfully small class of just 22. This year we are going to be involved in a production in term 3.
Coming up this term are our swimming sports. Children who are 8 years old can participate in width and length events. It is not compulsory to participate if you are not yet ready.
